Ben joined the Rotary Club of Enugu, Nigeria, in 1980. He served as Club President in 1989/90 Rotary year. He served as Governor of Rotary International District 9140 from 1994 - 95. Ben was a member of the Rotary Club of Nnewi Central and an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Enugu. His classification was New Venture Creation.

After serving as Governor, Ben continued to serve his club and District in one capacity or the other, including Chair, District Finance Committee. He served as the District representative on the Council on Legislation in 2007. He was also the Rotary International District 9142 Finance Chair. At the time of his passing, Ben was an Endowed Major Gifts Advisor and Member of the Rotary Peace Centres Committee.

He served both Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation in several capacities: Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator, Rotary Coordinator, Member of several RI and TRF committees, including Water Resources Taskforce, African Affairs, Polio Eradication Fund-raising Committee, Alumni Coordinator, Rotary Peace Centres, and International Convention Promotion. He served as GETS Training Team member and also as Training Team Leader.

He represented the Rotary International President at District Conferences in Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa.

PDG Ben was the Founder of Rotary District 9140 Education Endowment Fund which has so far assisted over 600 persons to acquire quality tertiary education. He was also the Founder of the Enugu Rotary Endowment Fund for Education, which awards scholarships to disadvantaged students from the Enugu metropolis.

Convention in Ghana

Ben received The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service in 1995, The Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award in 2000, and the RI Service Above Self Award in 2000. The Rotary Club of Enugu honored him with their Gold Service Award for "outstanding services to many global communities."

Ben authored five books dealing with service, including "Letters to My Rotary Friends" and "Dedicated to Service".

He was a Rotary Foundation Benefactor, while he and his spouse, Chinemerem, are Major Donors (Level Three) of The Rotary Foundation.
